You might have mentioned that up front .

EDIT: Ah, the pic. I see.

The needle should respond when you twist the speedo cable input on the backside of the head. If not, the gauge may be defective.

Another thought: If the needle was ever removed (for whatever the reason) and stuck back on arbitrarily at, say, 50 mph, your issue could be accounted for.

Re: speedometer help please

Unfortunately thats not the case. It was fine (reading properly) before I put it in a box (while still in the cluster with the faceplate attached) a couple years ago. I'm just now getting around to putting it in, and thats how it was. i have absolutely no idea how it happened or how to fix it.

Re: speedometer help please

I checked out one I had laying around.

It looks like there is a small copper colored spring just behind the faceplate that returns the needle. That may be what is broken.

There is also a larger black disk below that, and that should be attached to the needle directly, while the input shaft indirectly influences the black disk.

Re: speedometer help please

Thanks! I wasn't too sure about tearin it apart because ! didnt want to break it even more. I will tear my old 85MPH speedo apart and look into that, and see about scavenging my old speedo to make the new one work

Re: speedometer help please

FYI, I didn't take mine apart, I just looked at it from the side. The spring looks pretty delicate like what you'd see in an old wind up watch.

Re: speedometer help please

I loosened the faceplate enough to look behind the needle. The delicate looking copper spring appears to be intact. I removed the backhalf of the actaul speedo that holds the gears and whatnot to swap mileage rolls. It returned to 0. I'm thoroughly baffled at this point
