Need help with an 11 secound combo...

Hey guys,I am looking to build a new motor for my car. What I have is a 350 4-bolt one peice rms block I am starting with. this car will be street driven on the weekends and for fun and will also see alot of track time on slicks. I am looking to build a combo I can break into the 11's with maybe like a 11.70 or so without and power adder. I would like to keep it a 350 so no stroker. I will be running my Tremec tko-600 and either my 3.73's or maybe a 4.11. I would also like to use a roller cam. So please help me out here and suggest a known 11 secound combo thats not crazy expensive, around 1100 max on the heads is my budget. I also already have a 750double pumper with a proform main body I will be running. thanks

Are you looking to keep the stock short block or to rebuild the 350 ?

we went 11.80's with a stock LT1. all it had was a set of 1.6 roller rockers in it. car was ~3000lbs and had suspension.

1100 for heads only? i'd look into those patriot heads that you can get for like 900 bucks. Else shop for a used set of trick flows, afr's or brodix/dart. Most of the aluminum stuff starts at 1200 or so, so if possible look to spend alittle more money on the heads. thats the most important part of the build.

you can have a set of Iron L98 aluminum heads worked over tho and rebuilt to handle 11 second times.

i would think a cam like a 230/236 or bigger would be in order. you'll have to spin it to 6500 rpms or so. it will need a fairly stout rod with good bolts. A custom grind would be awesome but alittle more money.

victor jr manifold would work, or any other single plane designed to make power to 6500-7000 rpms. That will get you the airflow for the cam/rpms needed.

sure you can use less aggressive stuff but you will need a lighter car and better suspension. 11.70's should take around 115mph or so, which is getting near 380-400whp for a 3400-3500lb car.

I'd try for some used AFR's or Trickflow's and a 230/236ish cam, I got my trickflows for $800 in the classified section here and they'd never been run.

good set of heads and a solid roller......you can get pretty nasty with the cam due to the 5 speed, no worries about stall speed on the street.

i agree.. 260/260 @ 0.050", .592/.555 solid flat tappet in mine and a 4.30 gear.. more duration wants to rev higher, and require more gear.. or you will just waste power on the 1/4.. IMO, if you want to run 11.70's, a 4.30 or 4.56 would be perfect.. i'm at 11.65 and looking into 4.56's..

to be honest, you dont want my combo.. i dont get power till at least 1800rpm.. i have to speed on the highway to prevent bog.. but it could be from tuning.. since i havent tuned it to its best.. i also have way too much camshaft.. and i am on the high side of compression..

i do think the cam is rather big, but i dont think your compression is bad. if anything, it could be closer to 11 to 1. I dont like the quench height you got goin on tho with standard deck height of .025" and then a .039" gasket. Thats a .064" quench. I think if you used a thinner gasket to get quench to .040" or so total, you'll pick up some power and be less detonation prone.

dude, that cam isnt that big.......whats the lobe seperation? that will tell alot more of the story.

my cam is 262/272 at .050.....and .631/.631 on a 114deg

it idles mint, and drives nice on the highway even when the car isnt in boost.

sorry about that, i didnt update for a while.. i ran the 11.65 in my sig at 10.65:1 with that horrible quench.. also had a huge leak in the #3 cylinder, lost nearly 30% of cranking compression.. now i'm running .005" deck with a .039" gasket.. so .044" quench and roughly 11.1:1.. no times with this combo yet..

wow, that is massive.. i got 110LSA.. idles rough and needs to be at 1800 to run smooth, right about where the PV opens.. i havent actually got any real tuning time into it though so i bet those problems could be worked out.. i'm getting a wideband a/f meter in the summer to smooth out the kinks..

how much power you putting down??

ya the overlap will make it a little grumpier.......that sounds pretty extreme though.

it made 827hp at the wheels so far......it wasn't running right yet though

a 10.5:1 350 with some decent pistons and good rods/bolts, upgraded vortec heads, and nice cam. That'll get you there on the cheap. Good stall converter and suspension setup will do wonders.
