Points Race

Well I ran my bird today and went thru tech. I ran in the Pro class, (no electonics, No2 or Crossover). Tech was more strict today than any other time I've been here, but its my first time running Pro.
An NHRA official was here today, so that may had something to do with it, I dont know.
When I got tech'd, I had to explain how my Fuel Injection worked & had to show them I didnt have Thottle by Wire, or that I didnt have some outer space data logging going on. My MSD7AL2 was the only box he could recognise.
He was taking some notes on my Accell Gen7 boxes and double checked my MSD box numbers and said he would have a better idea of what I had by the next points race,...to see if i was in the right feild.

Anyway I red-lit my 1st round so it wanst a big deal. 11.35 @ 126 mph.

Dang, always a bad feeling to see red, especially after all that.

Re: Points Race

Alot of guys pizz and moan about strict tech, but I see it from the glass half full side; be THANKFUL they're that strict and willing to do some research. Pro class today is basically super pro without the delay box, car wise....it's almost an equal playing feild as far as cars in our class being zerox machines. Same goes for the tree, alot of uninformed cry that box cars have an advantage for killing the tree....fact is, they still have to hit a light, no different than anybody else. We've raced a number of high roller gamblers and I can count on one hand the number of super pro guys that actually got me off the line. It got so bad that i was actually "torn down" twice two years in a row by super pro racers thinking I was cheating because "street cars dont cut lights like that"

So, once you get up and running and sort out your combo, if you expect to have a chance, dial in the car and yourself to never go worse than a .020 light...and as of last year even .02x lights were about .01x from being competative...it's almost to the point of ridiculous how competative this class has become over the past 4 yrs, recent 2 yrs has REALLY raised the bar. Have fun, racing hitters will ensure you morph into one yourself

Ditto that.

Although I didn't have anywhere near a .02 average RT last year, my win light still came on against box cars several times.

Your lucky since:
1. Division wise, every points race is typically full of some bad ****'s....least in the tracks Scott owns. Opponents so good it's almost disturbing, never seen so many MOV's in the .00XX as I have the past 2 years, and dont expect next season to be anything but harder yet again...
and
2. Racing your 1/8mi track, you have to cut a near perfect light and run right on the number or your packin up.

yeah it is definitely awesome racing in good ole eddyville, racing at cordova and then talking to guys afterwords where they were talkin about how a lot of them will have .1 in the bag at all times i was like that's just so foreign to me....you do that here and you'll get pushed out EVERY time. if you take any more than .02 at the stripe you're usually in trouble too. thats something else that was really hard for me racing quarter, 105mph vs 145mph is a lot harder to judge than 75mph vs 85

Re: Points Race

I remember the first time I ever raced an 1/8mi race....jeezus I looked stupid LOL!! Was trying to hold .01 to be safe and drive the stripe, but everything happened so quick by the time I was done gear changing and ready to start racing...the race was over LOL!!

1/4mi is definately tougher on the big end with the huge mph spread between some cars, and I know purest's say nothing but 1/4mi, but I for one, after racing both plenty of times, prefer short track over 1/4mi racing anyday. The advantages of it far outweigh any positives of 1/4mi racing. Pretty much anybody you talk to that's raced hard for any amount of time will agree on all the benefits of half track's, just easier on things and costs less money to run...and makes the driver either get after it, or find a new hobby.

Re: Points Race

i've got a guy who wants me to drive for him a little this year. i tune on his car a little bit and i've had pretty decent luck driving it. still thinking i might have my junk back together though. should run like 7.4x little pump gas 350. the thing was a zerox machine before so hopefully i didn't screw that up putting a few better rear suspension bits on it lol
