lt1 throttle body question

do any of you guys know why a lot of lt1 throttle bodies have a small hole drilled in them in the front, below the two main inlet ports? Was this some sort of GM fix for a particular problem. I plugged mine back up. Thanks.

do you mean where coolant would run and the theory was so it wouldn't ice up in cold climates.

then you get the people who bypass it thinking they pick up massive HP gains

Re: lt1 throttle body question

That's the idle air supply. It works with passages in the LT1 manifold to distribute idle air evenly to each port. If you're not using an LT1 manifold, then plugging it is fine.

Re: lt1 throttle body question

plz take a photo

it has to be the coolant passage. can you pass something through it like a pencil or piece of wire? If so, that's all it is, the coolant passage and it's not needed

Re: lt1 throttle body question

it looked like it wasnt supposed to be that way. Its only about a 1/8" diameter hole. like someone just drilled it out.

Re: lt1 throttle body question

this is just below and in the center of the two main air intake holes (ports) in the throttle body. Looking at it from the front. I think 86LG4bird had it right. It must be for the IAC motor.

Re: lt1 throttle body question

i'm using a painless pcm and the IAC motor. Probably should open the hole back up then. Just would like to know why it was drilled out in the first place. Doesnt look like something done at the factory.
