LT1 retro intake-anyone having cooling problems?
I am guessing it is my single factory fan for the orig 5.0 but i wanted to see if anyone was having any problems with their eng running hot after the swap. Eng particulars: 350, Hot cam with 1.5 rr, edle uncoated headers, 160 stat, LT1 intake, 9.75/1 comp. Running almost 220 last evening when it about 75 to 80 out and late evening light. I think the cooling system should be able to keep it down around 180 to 200 or at least bring the temp down faster.
Would a factory dual fan be a good cooling upgrade or should I go aftermarket?
Thanks

check the usual stuff:
1 check your timing
2 check/replace radiator cap
3 make sure your air dam is still in place
4 make sure fans are kicking on when they should
5 check your coolent level both in the tank and in the radiator

1. I now have timing up to about 18 to 24 at idle, worked great for getting my vette to run cooler, esp on the exhaust. It has run warm sincec I bought it.
2. Will do, might put one of these in:
3. Still there.
4. Got it coming on at 184 degrees, off at 174.
5. I put in almost all dist water and 2 bottles of water wetter, both level check out OK.

Where in Ohio are you? Did I buy that 5 speed shifter from you? If so I think you said your are in Dayton. How far are your from the OH/MI border? We are renting Milan drag way on Sept 25th if you are interested. I will be running both my cars that night.

specific to your swap, make sure your replacement thermostat housing is not the highest point in the system... that will cause air bubbles....

I found it necessary to burp the system after going to the LT1 intake but I do not have any more cooling problems than I did with the Super Ram and I'm using the single TBI cooling fan with my 379.

I am from Toledo. I did sell a hurst 5 speed shifter, I can't remember whom I sold it to. Anyhow, I would really enjoy to go to Milan on 9-25. Hopefully, I can get my n2o hooked up by then. I have high expectations with this 406 on the bottle.
