1986 Chev IROC-Z 350/700R4 / 3:73 Gear Question
Hey guys and gals,
So I have finally got my engine to run properly but am having shifting issues since my 700R4 has been mated with 3:73 posi-rear end. Hearing tales that I may need a special Teflon gear on the tailstock. I was told to get with someone on corvette forum and I haven't received any messages from him, so I was wondering if someone can shed some light on what I would need...

Never heard of a Teflon anything related to this.
There are different governors, which control the transmission's view of road speed, to tailor the shift timing to the vehicle's gearing. There are also spring & weight kits that allow you to change your existing one within some given range.
I'd start with a new governor of approximately the right properties and go from there. For example https://www.ebay.com/i/172574311257 which you can get from many sources.

So since this is yet another new endeavor in my Camaro build saga, how much trouble is it going to be to get this installed? My trans guy said it already had the corvette servos. Whatever that means...hadn't had to to investigate that part as of yet. Just got my car out of the trans shop last Friday. As far as the whine, I'm wondering whether or not the pinion gears were shimmed correctly. I also asked the tech if he put in the GM conditioner. He said he had put in a better conditioner. (name escapes me right now) I'll have to view the invoice for particulars.

Not sure about "get this installed"... sounds like something involving another human, and if there is any one thing I have learned to predict about humans, it is that they are unpredictable. Therefore I will not attempt to predict how much trouble that will be.
it is not particularly related to the servo at all.
That's something you should do yourself.

As a FYI:
The servo goes in the pass side of the case; the hole about 4" dia right below the cooler line fittings. The governor goes in the driver's side, near the rear, hole is about the same size.
To change out the governor you push in the cover a bit, remove the clip, remove the cover, pop the old one out (just comes right out). Installation is the reverse of removal. Shouldn't lose much fluid, if any. Might need to drop the crossmember and lower the trans a bit to clear the body.
