Re: 1982 Firebird 4cyl Fuel Injection Bad idle?

Change/check all the vacuum lines. If they are original, they are sure to be dryrotted and cracked.

Fix it. It looks good otherwise. It'll be a great learning experience, and the sentimental value speaks for itself.

Re: Low voltage

How old is the alt?

There are a few tests you can do to see if it is the alternator.

The first is to set a voltmeter on "AC" and measure the voltage coming out of the back of the alternator....

Re: Runs terrible when slightly warm dies when hot

A very good suggestion.

These old injectors have been having problems with the ethanol in modern fuel.

The injectors should have higher resistance than about 12ish when hot. They should...

There is no "choke" on a tpi car. The computer just compensates for the temperature. If the coolant temperature sensor is telling the car that it is a t a different temperature, it won't run...

I wonder how your coolant temperature sensor looks. I would measure the resistance of it on a cold motor. There is a chart around here that show the proper resistance versus temperature.

afremont, he is using a wideband with a simulated output. The wire from the ECM no longer goes to the oxygen sensor, it goes to the analog output on the wideband controller.

Re: Seriously need help. No Job. Daily driver IROC dead

could be! Not necessarily though. The bad ohm reading only means the coil is shorted, not that it's leaking.

Re: Seriously need help. No Job. Daily driver IROC dead

I'm still leaning towards the CTS though. When mine went bad, the ECM was getting a constant temperature reading of 40 below, causing it to run super rich.

However,...

Re: Holy ****!

That trend will also probably fail to continue. It should reach a point where wear tapers off as the "newness" of the motor is removed and the parts wear in to one another.

If you have severely limited power on hot takeoff, you might have a knocking problem that is causing the computer to pull timing.
