COTM voting
I am wondering.. there are many nice rides here. any way we can divide up the stock/non-stock voting since I dont think it is fair for a stock vehicle to compete against mods. mods have done so much more to their cars than the stock they deserve their own class
thoughts? Maybe one month mods only and the next stock only?

Re: COTM voting
I agree. Some modified cars are very nice but you almost never see an all original 3rd gen on the COTM. It would make sense to have OCOTM voting (original car of the month).

thoughts? Maybe one month mods only and the next stock only?We have this already. This months COTM is "stock appearing" which is an attempt to realistically involve stock vehicles in a category where they are not competing against LS swaps and what not. The reason it is not stock only and no modifications, is there is only a very small handful of restored or numbers matching cars on this site. Some are not as active as others. Most members with a "stock" car have made a few changes whether is be exhaust, tires, cd players, k&n filters, or powder coated black original wheels... something has been changed on most cars. My car even when attempting to restore back to stock, I installed a performance exhaust system.
I can't be here to nit-pick each nomination for it eligibility into the COTM for each class, so small exterior mods will be accepted, and if Its a suspension, or drivetrain modification that I cannot see from the exterior of the vehicle then I'm gonna let fly. I can't look into and search each persons posts to verify what mods they may have made.
Other months have been open for modified and stock alike. There has been no specific modified class, so really... the stock cars have had the playing field evened in attempt to bring more areas of the site into the COTM program.
Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions about it.

Re: COTM voting
Look in this list... there is at least 4 of the cars out of the 10 that are exactly all original, in the running for a win.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/auto...tm-voting.html
Why didn't either of you nominate one of these all original cars that needs it own system? You sure could have and this is how it works... Nominate the car you like in the fitting month
Neither of you made any nomination. You want to see more original cars... NOMINATE THEM next time
I have made my point. Back to work!

Re: COTM voting
IMissMy86TA, it almost seems that you are whining that your car hasn't been nominated in any of the COTM threads. You mentioned it in this months thread and now started a new thread with the same complaints. I believe the COTM has been very fair with all models. If I remember correctly, there have been Camaro only, Firebird only, modified only, stock only, stock looking, etc. Also, why are you complaining about stock vs. modified when the majority of the COTM threads are comprised of modified cars and your car is not stock with those wheels.
There is no trophy or reward for winning the COTM. It's all in fun. You are sounding like the ones at car shows that want a trophy just because you entered the show. What's the real deal here?

Re: COTM voting
I think COTM has been very diverse as of late, altough I sometimes do get jealous when I see these 15k & up modified cars! Only motivates me to work harder towards building my career & making more money, so that I can do it better!
Maybe we should do a COTM based on income....lol
Everyone start posting up your W2's for next months COTM. lmao. What bracket will we be targeting first badnblk....
All joking aside, I think you have a very nice car (OP) & I;m sure we can all feel your pain when it comes to needing a little recognition every now & again! But your not making any sense when you bring that up since we've been having alot of different categories in COTM as of late.......

Re: COTM voting
maybe whining a bit. been a member long enuf for senior status so yah a bit. the wheels are not 100% stock but are 88 third gen formulas so its not like I put craggars on it or rattle canned them. she is very low mile and pretty rare all very stock. many moths I see heavy mods going against stockers and know the stocker will lose no matter how nice. this moths is all stock appearance which is nice to see but hasn't been the case as much previously

People who seek out recognition for their cars are in this hobby for the wrong reason imo.
Enjoy your car. Who cares what other people think.

Re: COTM voting
This is the second time my car was nominated. Back in November, I came in second to whitedevilTA. He has put many hours and many $$ into his car and my bone stock car was close to winning. You know, I went to an annual show for years because our club was the host club. They narrowed down the cars into so many categories that I kept winning my class because there wasn't any competition. I stopped taking my car to that show because of this. One year as I was checking cars in, a 1985 IROC-Z pulled in. It was low miles and in very good shape. I offered to help the owner detail his engine compartment better just to give me some competition. I ran home, got my car and registered it for this show. I took 1st place again. So did the other guy!!! They broke down the classes again. What's the fun in winning if you have no competition. I am most proud of the trophy I received from NPD when my car took 1st place in the 82-92 F-body class. Since that win, I haven't won another at that show. The people select the winner and they have chosen modified cars, clean Trans Ams, etc. It's better to win when there is a huge selection and you are chosen out of the crowd.
Based on this months voting, I don't have a chance in the "stock appearing" category. People's choice if you get nominated and people's choice if you get selected. I believe my car is more stock appearing than those two, but I'm not the vote that counts. Just wait it out and your car will eventually be chosen for some category.

I also like competition. and its no fun unless there is some. I have won at two shows. at one I competed against about 30 firebirds (classed show) and got 2nd and there were about 5 3rd gens including one kick butt TTA. I should of lost against him IMO. I came second to a 67 restored frame off f bird professionally done. parked next to those guys. it was promo car for a resto shop. one sweet ride. 50K it took to get it to that shape. deserved the win they did! the other was a GTO club show that was open to all pontiacs so I was the only 3rd get and got an award (pitty?) anyway yeah I know what ya mean. I do love the comp. I hope if/when I am chosen it will be this spring as I am changing rims to the crosslaces in black. Mine are polarizing. either love em or hate em.. no in-between.
When I am done my car will look similar to this members car. I almost bought it. it was the one I wanted but they were too far and mine was a short drive away. I am glad I chose the one I have since I love the manual but anyway..
If you read the thread you will see I wanted the car but couldnt afford it at that time I had two houses and was trying to sell one. once i did i tried to contact him but he didnt reply
then I bought. worked out I guess.https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fire...ns-am-gta.html
anyway mine will look like this next spring:

You can't nominate yourself for Car of the Month, so it's all about who knows your car and how "visible" it is on the forum... I think I finally got nominated because a photoshoot thread of mine was bumped to the top around the time nominations were due in.

I also really hate the whole sour grapes boohoo my car should have been nominated type sentiment. Sorta like the project of the month thread a while back. COTM is just a way to thank the guys who have truly exceptional cars for their participation and sharing here on TGO, for their part in trying to keep our cars respectable. If pics of your car are on here and it hasnt been nominated its because it isnt up to par, or its not visible enough through all the traffic here.
I put a LOT of work and time and money into my car just like a lot of guys here, but it is nowhere near COTM type quality and I'd be embarassed to see it nominated, and I doubt anyone would come up to me and tell me it's not a very nice car. But I know Im not entitled to car of the month recognition and I dont pretend my work is up to the standards of the guys who win every month, it's nowhere close. Maybe one day... but in the meantime I love my car because I enjoy it. If I never win a COTM (and I very likely never will) I will be just fine with that.

Re: COTM voting
There's definitely that element of how recognized your car is, but that's only a small component of getting nominated and winning. No one is going to nominate you if no one has seen your car. But I think the members pulling cars out of the woodwork to nominate them is a very organic, fair way to nominate. Only issue is that there are a lot of guys with nice cars here that probably have never posted a picture online. But it's an online competition, not a local car show. Gotta participate to be known.

A very original low mile and rare GTA not ever nominated. Don't you think its odd? Obviously to get nominated I will need to plaster some posts with pics of the car this spring

My reason for posting is not sour grapes as you say but I guess an overall surprise that after all these years on the board and lots of activity nothing

Basically what you need to is a photogenic car and quality photography. The best car will never get nominated if the photography is poor. This is just as much a photography competition as a car competition.
I think your car would have been nominated with nicer looking wheels. Slap the black / silver lip GTA wheels like your pictures above, and I think you would get nominated.
Do you really think there is a conspiracy against your car on here? I will say complaining will not help your cause.

Re: COTM voting
None of those pictures make the car stand out from any other black car with black rims. I agree that the photography might help a lot. Look at the two pics below of my car. The 1st one doesn't do it any justice, but the second one makes it pop. There is nothing spectacular about my car except that it's very clean. It's no different than any other dark red metallic IROC-Z. Why mine has been nominated, I don't know. Maybe it's the quality of the pictures. The black base rims on a high end GTA don't really help in my opinion.

I agree about the photography as I have not had much time to focus on that. the rims are not base rims as they are 1988 formula 16x8s with WS6 caps and the black lug covers. the car looks very aggressive in person. I just hate the gold BMW look of the cross lace rims. the black ones don't look bad at all though.

That is fine, but just remember, COTM is not about what you think of your car, its about what other people think of your car. Personally I think you car would look a lot better without all black wheels, but that is just me.

Anyone can nominate anyone that falls under that month's restrictions (other than themselves, of course).
