Mounting pusher fan
Hey guys I ran into an issue last night on my drive where my pusher fan that was mounted thru the radiator with those little ties decided to come loose and not only destroyed itself but took my radiator out at the same time. Just managed to get the car back to safety before the real show began.
So I'm curious to know how to go about mounting the new fan to the new radiator. I'm thinking I'll have to get some tabs welded on to mount the fan but don't fans have to be mounted as close as possible?? How does a guy go about this??
I'm all ears so any input is welcome. Thanks guys

Re: Mounting pusher fan
It would require someone well versed in fabrication, but the answer is in one word;
Ducting
As it stands now, a whole bunch of your radiator is receiving no benefit from the fan (all of the radiator's area that is not covered by the fan). The fan could be located further away if there was ducting in place to ensure every bit of the fan's air went through the radiator.

Re: Mounting pusher fan
You do not want the fan mounted to the radiator at all if you can avoid it. Hayden 253 strap kit and plastic feet that match the fan is what I use to mount them. I attach the feet to the core support above and below the condenser or radiator using rivit nuts to achor the straps. I find my 90* rivit nut tool a little easier than the longer straight version for this kind of work.

Re: Mounting pusher fan
I can't use puller fans as I've got a huge turbo in the way. Hence why I'm using a pusher fan. Keeping the engine cool isn't my problem at all. I got it figured out

Re: Mounting pusher fan
I ordered a new radiator and fan, same stuff I've currently got in the car, I'm gonna use some of those little L shaped brackets and I have a few aluminum weld nuts laying around that I'll have welded to the radiator and I'll bolt it in place instead of using the push thru radiator ties the fan comes with.

I mounted an 14" aux fan (spal) between the hood latch brace/rad. Made a bracket/riveted to the bottom of the fan. Lower bolt on the brace sandwiches said bracket.
The top is held in place by a similar fashion (red). Also fabricated a small shroud to close the gap between the fan/radiator.

Re: Mounting pusher fan
I made little L brackets that my SPAL pusher bolts to...sp its al lsolid.
Its only for emergency cooling / to help bring temps down when / if the LS fans have a hard time though.
the downside is that there is may be a half inch to maybe three quarter gap so Im not getting maximum flow efficiency.
In testing I found that it keeps engine temps down and really helps improve ac efficiency, so it must be doing something good.

Re: Mounting pusher fan
Got the new radiator and fan setup in the car. But man oh man has it been a bear to get the air out of the system. I thought I had it on the first go I had my coolant funnel on and watched all the bubbles and cycled it 2-3 times thinking I was good to go. But I noticed it would heat up fast but not to the point of overheating so I put the funnel back on and got it up to temp but this time I cracked open my steam vent line and sure enough a whole bunch more air came out and I got another half jug of coolant in there.
I mounted the radiator a bit different too, I took it to the welder and had him weld on some 1" angle to the tanks I then drilled a couple holes and used well nuts to bolt it into the car instead of using that big ol' funky bracket I originally made. Looks much better in my opinion and should have some expansion when it gets all hot
I'm thinking of making a cover to go over that huge gap so everything is hidden

Re: Mounting pusher fan
Cutting out that middle radiator area of the front frame support seems like a bad idea. Too late now, but I'm interested in how this ends up working out for you.

Re: Mounting pusher fan
It's been working great. It's just an upper radiator support. There's no structural integrity missing from cutting a thin piece of stamped steel
