Bad News
hello everybody!
Its been awhile, so here is an update. I've been busy with grad school and all for a few years now, so the car has been push off my priorities as of late and has become a BARN CAR Ideally this is only for a few more months until I finish school and can get my own garage. Unfortunately, that may be too long.... I just started it up for the first time in months and it is full of mice! Those little bastards are in the dash and probably in the seats too I had moth ***** in there but it did nothing. I think i would rather it sit outside than have this happen. Unfortunately, it has, and no mater what I do now i think i will have to tear the whole thing apart to get all the nasty nesting crap out. Any suggestions for evicting them? As of now, I am doing my best to get it moved somewhere that is not near grain storage so the food supply won't be so near. Anybody have experience with this kind of thing? So far they haven't seemed to chew anything important, but I don't want to count on that.

Re: Bad News
I would buy a snake. I would just leave it in the car and hope you find it before you get in and try to go somewhere. I am pretty sure and snake wouldn't really mess things up either.

Re: Bad News
Tanks for the offer Tim, but I'm not sure there is much we can do right now.The fact that the car is 3 hours away doesn't make things easy. I think what I will do for now is find another place to store it for the next few months that is no where near grain or corn bins (Sort of hard down in central IL) Then I will put out traps and hope I get rid of most of them. I have pretty much come to terms with the fact that I will have to tear out the interior, I just don't want mice hitching a ride to the garage and house I will hopefully have at some point later this year. How is everyone else by the way? Is Jeremy still out of state?

Smurfn: The one thing that worked damn good for us is trays full of mouse poison, moth *****, and fly strips hanging in the car.
The car is going to smell for a while after this treatment, but it makes it so the mice don't want to hang out inside. Put a lot of everything in there. Even if they can stand the smell, the poison will get them before they can do a lot of damage.

haven't heard from you in a while mike last time I seen you was at the train museum. That sucks I had a mouse in the air cleaner when my bird was outside, those little bastards can get into the smallest of cracks. found an article about keeping them out, its all the way at the bottom, seams to make sense rather tape it to a quality car cover than the car. http://www.guildclassiccars.com/plac...store_cars.htm

Thank you! This is the first year I've stored my car, I'm storing it in an old corn crib w/ a tarp. I haven't seen any mice but have noticed the tarp rubbing agains the paint. I really like the idea of driving over a large piece of plastic to keep the mice out. This will also help with condensation from the floor rusting out the car.

Re: Bad News
That sucks Mike.
Pretty much what TJ said as far as inside the car.
Putting it on jack stands helps as does sealing off everything on the outside that u can and putting rings around the jack stands like bird feeders.
Parking on plastic helps a lot for the condensation coming from the ground also like was mentioned.

Re: Bad News
Actually I found a snake in the heater assembly of a car I parted out not to long ago and it scared the **** out of me at the time so I dont suggest the snake, sadly I suggest paying for storage somewhere to avoid mice and so forth its much more expensive but your car wont get touched while finishing school

Re: Bad News
If you put those sticky traps around the nose of the car usually that will catch them plus I like those metal ones with like peanut butter in it the mice go in it to eat but cant get back out

*Update*
Well, I went back down there to move it to a slightly better location, (A garage instead of a barn. This also reduces the risk of being run over by a tractor or something.) and it seems that the fresh batch of mothballs that i put in there may have evicted them. Nothing seemed chewed, it started right up, drove, and I never saw a single one of those little bastards. It reeks of mothballs even outside of the car with everything closed, but that is a small price to pay. I can air it out latter.

I've also had strongly scented dryer sheets work very well in keeping mice away. This would also make your car smell like the clothes dryer instead of grandma's closet, lol.

Re: Bad News
My daughter's '79 Camaro had a mouse make a nest in her muffler this past winter. Hubby started it up to move it a few weeks ago to his warehouse in Plainfield where the new big block for it is sitting and it blew that nest right out into his hunting crap LOL... He then put the green poison boxes out, dead mice showing up all over the garage now

howdy
Well, I am almost done with my thesis, and may have a job soon! Assuming I don't move to Texas or something I may actually make the fest for the first time in a few years!
