Do I have a speedometer hole?!
Hey, does my tranny come with a hole for the speedometer cable to go into? I bought the car with the tranny allready in it. The guy said all I need to do is get an adapter so the speedometer will be acurate. I know the combination should be 7-tooth drive gear and 21-tooth driven gear, but I don't know where to put the stupid cable. I cannot find a hole in the tail shaft. Please help.
It is a T-10, 7d (does that mean 7-tooth drive gear?), and the #3813490 and then it says R-2.
thanks

Of course you do, you better!
If your speedometer is working (regardless of precision), the mechanical cable is attached to the trann and working. Just find it. It's a cable that's screwed onto the tailhousing of the tranny. On the T-5 and 700R4 it's on the driver side. That's your "hole".
When you unscrew the cable, remove the bolt and pull the gear housing out. You'll see both gears now.
Oh, btw ..... catch the fluid in a pan!!!!!!!
Here's a post with some pictures and info on how to do the gears: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...postid=2329537
Hope this helps.

There isn't going to be an actual hole. It should be a threaded thing coming out of a hole. About as big around as a quarter maybe. The cable should have a threaded sleeve. You use that to screw into the transmission.

Yeah, if you can get some pics, that would help. I have never seen a T10 before so I can't tell where the speedometer cable hookup is but it gotta be on the tailshaft somewhere.
Do a search and maybe you'll come up with something. I'd search for ya but I'm on dial-up @ 26k (can you believe it?) and it would take me ages, sorry.

K, here are some pics. Is it possible that in 1962 (when my tranny was made) they made some of these without a speedometer?

It goes right here.
Take that nut off, remove that stud and large washer. It's a backyard/hillack plug for the hole.
The little threaded hole next to it is where the bolt for the retainer goes.

Good job, RB83L69! I missed it on the first pass. Then I looked closer and saw the same thing, the bolt hole is a dead giveaway.
Though, I believe the tranny tailhousing will need to come out to remove the bolt from the inside. Or maybe they have some special washer inside that will fit through, I don't know but I'd be prepared to pull the tailhousing anyway.
