Re: TRANS leaking help!!!!

On the 700R4 transmission there is either a boot seal or a O ring. Available at most parts stores

Re: TRANS leaking help!!!!

The 82 Z28 had 2 options for the transmission, manual or automatic (700R4). Since you have a dipstick, its the 700R4. Check with your local parts store they should have the dipstick tube seal or even rock auto.

It looks like your dipstick tube seal has been lifted out of the case and split as well. The dip stick tube seal needs to be replaced. Loosen the bolt that secures the dip stick bracket and lift up to replace the seal. Might be tight clearance the way the tube bends going up the back of the engine. But I think you should be fine without having to lower the trans to gain more clearance.

thank you all for the help it was the dipstick tube and grommet I fixed that for about $15 but it’s still leak from about 2 inches on the left where the pan bolts to the trans only leaks when I fill up more then I wanna say about 6-7 qt is it my pan or deeper problem?

Re: TRANS leaking help!!!!

I suggest you clean the immediate area and then LOOK carefully for the leak. Asking people on the internet to pinpoint your precise leak location is like asking Tiger Woods to fix your golf swing over the phone.

If the pan is leaking from that area, then you may need to replace the pan gasket too. When you have the pan off, you can place it on something flat and level to see if it got bent or not.

Re: TRANS leaking help!!!!

'Probably doesn't matter, but the 700R-4 wasn't available until '83.
The transmission is likely 200C (if original)...

Re: TRANS leaking help!!!!

It is obvious from the photo that the "top hat" seal is broken and protruding from the case. The dipstick tube will have to be removed and thoroughly cleaned up. Where the seal goes into the transmission. Make sure that area is cleaned up also. Put a little on the seal before installing it in the case. Put a little oil on the tube where it goes into the seal in the case. That way you will not tear anything up on the installation.
