No Engine Numbers?

I tryed to find number on my engine today to match it to the vin or any number but I couldnt find any of the three number that are sapposed to be on the motor. ? The only number I could find is 637 ( I think) on both sides of the block I know the guy before me played with the motor or trans. The computer is remanufactured if that matters. I want to know what is stock on my car but so far im not having much luck.

Re: No Engine Numbers?

It appears to be 627 (my bad) so does that mean theres a good chance its the 350 and not 305? It has TBI right now but the guy could have put a 350 in with the 305 Intake setup right? If so Im hopeing that going to tpi or even carb would free up some power. Ill have to get back to you on the casting number I just drove the car and want to wait for the engine to cool. It appears I was looking on the flat vertical spot next to the #.

Re: No Engine Numbers?

There is no "on top" or "on bottom" number with a casting number - you are looking for a 6-8 digit number located where the pic above shows. Sometimes, there will also be a CID casted into the block (ie it'll have 5.0 or 5.7 casted there as well).

If you look in the picture it looks the same on my motor. It has numbers on top and on bottom followed by the GM. Keep in mind the motor is not stock and replaced the 5.0 that was in it..

Re: No Engine Numbers?

all I'm saying is that you keep posting up 3 digit numbers, and what you need is 6-8 digits long. casting numbers are the only thing that will tell you anything, and they are 6-8 digits. Google GM Casting Numbers, and you'll see what you should be looking for.

Re: No Engine Numbers?

I got the casting number or most of it. I cant tell for sure what the 5th number is. I think its 1409(something)62. Its facing the rear of the car and was on the passanger side. I couldnt find anything like 305 or 350 in the number. Here is a pic of the engine if it helps. Feel free to give your 2cents about the "orange" sensor

Still wrong
Last 3 numbers will be same as the 3 cast in side of block ; in your case 627
Most likely your block # 14093627
87 - 91 305
