Yeah, it happens to them all, mine got it's first and so far only crack that runs up into the left speaker grill about a year ago. I'm expecting more soon.

Check ALL the grounds, I've seen bad grounds cause jumpy tach's more than once. I'd start with the instrument cluster and where it grounds at.

I believe bore and stroke make very little difference to a point, it's all about airflow, one engine with a .5 longer stroke but the exact same displacement as a engine with a bigger bore should make...

Did it have stock valve covers? If so you must really know how to put them on correctly, over-torque the screws just a little " like most people tend to do" and you bend the covers, then get a leak....

I did buy my car new, I didn't get the Z/28 because they were about about 4 or 5G more expensive, plus I was young and in the high insurance rate class, the RS was just a lot cheaper all around.

Coils only deliver the amount of spark needed to jump the gap, so a stock coil and a high output coil are going to show about the same on a bench, however a running engine at high RPM needs more...

I'm with 57k on this one, I'm a machinist and deal with this every day, that finish is at least 300 and closer to 500 I bet, usually ok for pipe flanges with gaskets and sealer but not the deck...

Yes the injector wires are hooked up, although when I went to remove them one of the locking tabs broke off on both injectors, they were hard and brittle, but I don't think the broken locking tabs...

My intake started leaking water so I pulled it off, cleaned up stuff, bolted everything back up and it won't start, seems to be getting no fuel and I can't hear the pump running, it fires right off...

Thanks for the info. And due to production tolerances some cylinders of an engine will have valve contact sooner or later, so just because 1 valve makes it to .600 lift before contact the next...
