Re: Fuel line repair? Compression fittings?

A compression fitting on a brake line is just crazy unsafe. The first time you REALLY stomp on that pedal it's liable to let loose on you. Brake line pressure can go well over 1000psi. I'd replace...

'87 IROC

Need to make room for other projects. This '87 IROC is mostly stock and unmolested (except for the flowmaster exhaust, HP coil, and performance chip). Even the original radio is still in it....

Re: Massive Loss of Oil, any suggestions on where to look first

How many miles in that 3 mos? If it was more than 1500 or so, it's not that bad. A quart every 1K or so it considered "normal" by most manufacturers.

Re: just bought and don't know anything

I hate to be mean, but you might have stuck a battery in it *before* you bought it. I think you bought a parts car. I hope you're a fast learner.

Re: Steering box size

Odds are much more likely it's the rag joint rather than the box itself. But now that you've messed with the preload, you might as well replace that too.

Re: PILOT BEARING , TOILET PAPER ???

For the bronze bearings, it easy to just break them. Drill a 1/4" hole in one side and whack it with a chisel (safety glasses of course). They are very brittle and just break apart.

Re: Problem with headlight

The two headlights are in parallel, if one works they both should. Check the ground on the one that doesn't work (follow the black wire).

No, you don't want to take that apart. There's a big nasty spring in there. Buy a rebuilt, they're not that much. Another way to tell is just shut the car off and step on the brakes. You should get a...

Bad booster. I'll bet it still does it in R-D, just not as loud. Try this, shut the engine off, wait about 30 seconds and pull the vacuum line from the booster. It should POP as the vacuum breaks If...

Re: Steering Box Leak, Questions

It's not that bad, but you need a 1 5/16" socket, snap ring pliers, and a pitman arm puller. Once you get the arm off, remove the snap ring, put a bucket under it, start the engine and turn the wheel...

Re: Help! cannot get dizzy to drop into oil pump

I'm guessing, giving all you tried, that the intermediate shaft is not seated in the oil pump. If you turn it with a long screwdriver do you feel the resistance of the pump?

Re: erratic idle after warm

In park the engine is under no load. When you put it in gear, the torque converter puts a load on the engine. The load pulls the RPM down, the ECM detects that and makes adjustments in an attempt to...

Re: 1990 Iroc borg warner 9bolt

Even though they switched for the '90 model year, I'm sure they used any remaining 9 bolt inventory. You should change the gear oil every 30-40K in the 9 bolt. The cone wear pollutes it quickly.

Re: How much am I looking at?? And what should I replace/upgrade??

I doubt that's the cause of your long crank time. I would look at other options (like the FP relay) before I went and ripped the tank out. Have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it?

A bronze one? There are removal tools, or the tight fitting bolt and grease hydraulic trick. I usually drill a couple holes in the edge and cut it with a chisel. They are pretty soft.

Re: Rear battery breaker amps needed?

I've never seen one used, just a cut off switch. The starter can easily draw a couple hundred amps. Doesn't mean they don't make them, maybe for a golf cart or fork lift.

Re: Please help: Blower fan weirdness

I think it's the relay, not the resistor pack. The relay runs high speed, the resistors are used for the other speeds.
